Main Objective:

The position is responsible for ensuring that software has been effectively and efficiently verified and validated prior to its release and the design effectively meet the requirements.  Software quality assurance efforts are lifecycle oriented, beginning during product requirements development and continuing throughout its lifetime.   This position will also be part of implementing software development tools to improve the overall quality of software, including peer reviews, software hazard analysis, requirements traceability, software code analysis/code coverage, defect tracking, software metrics, configuration management, software supplier quality, and software tool validations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, establish, and enforce quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications, products and bug fixes/enhancements throughout development life-cycle
  2. Assist in the design of test cases towards software user stories and marketing requirements.
  3. Assist in the creation and execution of test plans, test designs and test cases.
  4. Support Software Development team in the verification of automated reports.
  5. Work closely with the software development team to identify improvements.
  6. Influence the requirements definition and software design to maximize testability.
  7. Oversee and influence development of test objects to meet needs of protocol.
  8. Develop and Extend protocols and plans as device features evolve.
  9. Participate in product design reviews.
  10. Setup test environments for various system platforms, including Windows (Servers), iOS, and Android.
  11. Develop, sustain and optimize QA automation suite for various applications, including Windows apps, Web apps, iOS apps and Android apps.
  12. Internal customer support and troubleshooting for existing products.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree required; preferably in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in software design and software quality assurance required.
  • 5+ years hands on experience in software quality assurance associated with real time embedded software systems in regulated industry and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant SQA experience is required.
  • Project Management experience or formal training preferred.
  • Experience acting as a lead SQA Engineer preferred.
  • Experience with Linux, Windows (Servers), iOS and Android applications preferred.
  • Experience with, knowledge of and discipline in standard System Development Lifecycle practices including translation of business requirements into a System Design document, Source Code Version Control (Subversion, Git, etc.), and maintenance preferred.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum, Lean or XP) preferred.
  • Experience in medical information product release and certificate processes preferred.
  • Experience with Web Services preferred.
  • Experience implementing automated software test tools required.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Thorough understanding of software quality assurance principles, practices and metrics as well as software development and testing best practices that foster high quality software.
  • Hands on experience using modern software development and quality assurance tools.
  • Strong software skills required, including C#, Perl, Python, and embedded C.
  • Familiarity with IEC 62304, ISO 14971, FDA regulations and international standards applicable to medical device software development, verification and validation a plus.
  • Expert in use cases analysis and test cases creation.
  • Strong experience in product life cycle testing and supporting.
  • Strong experience in unit tests and automated test suite development.
  • Comfort with frequent, incremental testing and deployment.
  • Strong grasp of automation tools.
  • Good knowledge video processing (e.g. compression algorithms), image processing, video streaming.
  • Expert skills in integration, debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Good knowledge of SQL database.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of medical standards, such as Dicom and HL7. Capable or analyzing/evaluating customized medical messages and simulate the specific health information system.
  • Good communication across departments and divisions to develop needs analysis, requirements, and operational planning.
  • Good understanding of network protocols. Proven record developing and executing software test protocols for complex medical devices.
  • Experience implementing automated software test tools required.
  • Software test group experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with products from the prototype through 510(k)/​ISO clearance and commercialization is preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation, PC and server hardware, network switches and various network devices.
