****These positions are expected to start in approximately January 2019.  The purpose of these Manufacturing Apprentice positions is to provide training and experience in order to develop the successful candidates into CNC Machinists.  They are primarily day-shift positions with evening classroom training (including off-site training) and occasional Saturday work as needed.  Successful candidates must be able to work at the Arthrex Ave Maria manufacturing facility and also, must have the flexibility to train at local area technical schools after normal work hours if assigned to do so.

Main Objective:

To successfully complete all requisite Manufacturing Apprenticeship program objectives, including all machine specific and classroom training to ultimately produce superior products following Arthrex Manufacturing Inc. machining processes and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives work order and verify that the components are correct
  • Receives material and loads on bar feeder
  • Performs first cut-off
  • Returns all axis to the home position
  • Ability to look at screen pages and machine operation to detect malfunctions
  • Verifies the correct program in the machine is running
  • Uses various types of measuring instruments
  • Replaces tooling at the machine
  • Stops machine to change settings, offsets and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • Recommends process improvements with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems
  • Ensures work area, machine, tooling and parts are cleaned regularly and free from excess oil deposits
  • Maintains good quality and production output
  • Attend up to six hours weekly of off-shift/unpaid classroom hours as outlined in the program
  • Be able to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language (remediation may be requested)
  • Complete promptly and carefully all lessons, assignments and school tests required by the sponsor
  • Maintain satisfactory progress as determined by the Manufacturing Trainer to advance through each stage of the 4 year program. 
  • Sequentially develop skills reflective of the MO1, MO2, and MO3 job descriptions
  • Keep adequate records of work experience and related instruction as required by the sponsor and submit properly completed records to the appropriate authority in a timely manner

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. 

At least 18 years of age

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Mechanical aptitude.  Ability to use measuring tools. Must pass blueprint reading class.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Knowledge of CNC machines.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements. 

Language and Communication Skills:

Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to complete the apprenticeship program based upon the program requirements listed above.  Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management.  Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
