This position is for the new Arthrex manufacturing facility in Sandy Springs, SC.

This Engineering Technician position will support laser welding/marking operations.  Essential responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, providing laser marking and welding expertise to generate CNC programs for engineering change orders, supporting related production activities and developing/optimizing laser parameters to provide indelible marking and maintaining tooling and fixtures required to support the laser operations.  This position will also support cleaning and passivation operations and perform other tasks as needed by the Company.

At least one year of experience with laser marking/welding and CNC laser programming experience are required.  An Associate's Degree (or higher-level degree) in a related technical discipline is also preferred.  Experience with CNC programing for Foba and/or Rofin Lasers is plus.

Main Objective:

Support the development, implementation and improvements of manufacturing processes to produce cost effective quality products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate new or revise existing machine programs to respond to Engineering change orders
  • Support daily production activities
  • May generate programs for new and revised products
  • Understand correct revision levels of components to upper level and coordinate with planning regarding inventory and WIP run-out including effectivity dates.
  • Use CAD skills to make drawing revisions
  • Assist in product tests when necessary
  • Develop and write technical reports/documents such as work instructions
  • Use principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems
  • Assist with the design, testing and manufacturing of fixtures and gaging products, and other tools
  • Prepare layouts and drawings of the assembly processes and of parts to be manufactured
  • Perform time and motion studies to assist in determining labor costs
  • Monitor production equipment operation in manufacturing departments or work with engineers to eliminate production problems
  • Review project objectives and drawings to identify test specifications, procedures, objectives, and equipment
  • Draft detail drawings or sketches to request parts fabrication by machine or sheet metal shops
  • Setup and conduct tests of complete products under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control
  • Analyze test results in relation to equipment specifications to recommend modifications or adjustments to equipment operation to meet specifications
  • Record test results, numerical and graphical data, to make recommendations for changes in product or assembly processes

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

An Associate’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology is preferred.

Prior laser welding/laser marking experience is required.

CNC laser programming experience is required.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Must have experience in computer skills: SAP or similar ERP system, Word, Excel, process improvement skills, basic costing skills.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.

Language and Communication Skills:

Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above.  Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management.  Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
