We are looking for a talented and passionate Senior Software Automation Engineer who wants to make an impact in the medical space. With over 35 years of experience in the orthopedic industry, Arthrex is dedicated to providing safe and reproducible solutions for health care professionals. We are seeking an experienced test automation engineer who will help us ensure the quality and reliability of our applications that are used by thousands of users worldwide for the latest education in sports medicine and minimally invasive orthopedic surgery. The Senior Software Automation Engineer will help our team build out the infrastructure, patterns and processes associated with the testing of our products. You will work closely with the development, operations, and quality assurance teams to train and guide us in our test automation practices. This is an area we are looking to invest heavily, and you will have an immediate and lasting impact on the quality of our products.

We use technologies such as Angular, Golang, Ruby, Docker, CircleCI and AWS, but are always evaluating new technologies and patterns that can have a positive impact on our products. We lean heavily towards open source technologies (e.g. Selenium and Appium for UI testing). Our ideal candidate has experience implementing a test automation strategy for a development team - we are looking for someone that can lead the team in making this part of our process and culture. Qualified candidates should not only be able to lead the testing strategy, but actively participate in writing tests as well. Qualified candidates should have previous experience developing and supporting web and/or mobile applications. We expect this candidate to have an interest in mentoring team members and align everyone on the use of best practices and patterns of our testing strategy.

Main Objective:

Responsible for designing and implementing test automation for Arthrex software products.  Develop automated test cases for complex custom applications and services. Build and contribute to test automation frameworks and technologies. Prioritize and lead test automation efforts and strategy within the Marketing software development team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Design, build and evolve a robust test automation framework utilizing tools such as Selenium, Appium, and other product specific interfaces
  2. Develop, establish, and enforce quality assurance measures and automation testing standards within the software development lifecycle
  3. Setup and maintain the test automation framework including integration into the CI workflow. Integrate with productivity tools such as Github and Jira for visibility of test runs
  4. Develop, sustain, and optimize the test automation suite for various applications including web applications, web services, iOS applications, and Android applications
  5. Lead and oversee test automation activities for products assigned, including training other SQA and development staff on how to develop and maintain automation scripts.
  6. Work effectively with other development and quality assurance teams on standards and opportunities for collaboration.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred. Minimum of 5 years of relevant test automation development experience is required.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Current or former role acting as a senior or lead Test Automation Engineer
  • Expert in automated test development, preferably utilizing the following technologies
    • Selenium and Appium
    • Git
    • CircleCI
  • Experience with the development and support of web and/or mobile applications using programming/scripting languages such as Ruby, Swift, Go, JavaScript, Python or Java.
  • Excellent debugging skills of web applications, mobile applications, and web services
  • Deep understanding of test automation fundamentals, including functional, performance, stress and endurance testing; BDD and TDD techniques a plus
  • Experience testing a range of services and applications, including
    • Web applications
    • Mobile applications
    • Web Services
  • Experience in testing cross-browser/cross-platform/cross-device compatibility
  • Experience working with web services. Knowledge of or experience with micro-services or service-oriented architecture is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable about web standards and W3C specifications
  • Fundamental understanding of network protocols and client-server architecture
  • Advanced experience with distributed version control systems such as Git
  • Ability to work effectively with little supervision and strong attention to detail in a team environment.
  • Ability to teach and train others on test automation patterns and techniques.
  • Requires the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Individual must be highly motivated and self-directed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, and associated project and test toolsets (preferably JIRA, Confluence)
  • Experience with continuous integration.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Experience working with code editors, team collaboration software. Individual must feel comfortable using the command line. Experience with Mac OS X is a plus.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
