Main Objective:

Responsible for software quality implemented within Class I and II medical devices by fully engaging in the development process including architectural considerations, interface definition and test development, analysis and simulation, black and white box testing, development of test plans and test cases for iV&V, design assurance testing, bug tracking and resolution, product maintenance, and source control. Additional responsibility will include software development tasks as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contirbute to Software Quality Assurance including inputs into architectural approach, specification development and test plans and test execution to ensure robust, sustainable and scalable design approaches that meet design intent within embedded system constraints.
  • Develop and execute the systems and tools for Software Design and Qualty Assurance including source code repository, bug tracking system, code check-in and test methodology, test automation mechanisms, regression test mechanisms, and system level tests for system V&V and production FCO. 
  • Contribution to Software Design and Develoment SOP in compliance with relevant governing standards, including verification validation planning and implementation.
  • Support development of software specification documentation.
  • Develop Software Test Documentation including use case definition, verification test methodology, regression testing, stress testing, and defect resolution testing.
  • Software development and test utilizing lean and agile methods.
  • Black box testing using automated test methods
  • White box testing through definined API’s and code reviews
  • Software testing and debugging in support of development and through V&V.
  • Input and direction to developers and contractors to assist them in optimium design approach, tools, and testing for quality software.  
  • Respsonsible for source code repository, and  defect tracking system.
  • Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
  • Support development of timelines for software development projects.
  • Support design history file deliverables for assigned projects, adhering to design control procedures.
  • Provide Regulatory department technical support for assigned projects as needed.
  • Support Marketing and Product Management with technical information to be used for training and marketing of assigned products.
  • Support surgeon and distributor customers by training and/or educating on technical aspects of assigned products as needed.
  • Report progress and status of assigned projects on a timely basis with emphasis on reporting results to Director of Engineering.
  • Some required domestic travel to attend trade shows and visit established accounts as well as prospective accounts. International travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline; MS preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of relevant product development experience is required.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Current or former role acting as a lead software QA developer in distributed development environment.
  • Experience in full lifecycle Quality Assurance using proven industry-standard techniques
  • Experience in executing QA test plan and test cases against functional requirements and design documents
  • Demonstrated experience in test automation including development and test equipment in support of production line.
  • Expert level background in C/C++ object oriented programming.
  • Ability to optimize data management (SQL) for robustness and scalability
  • Extensive experience with Unix/Linux
  • Knowledge of embedded programming environment using open source tools.
  • Expert skills in debugging, troubleshooting, and system optimization
  • Several years of experience with Model-View-Controller (MVC) separation
  • Well-versed in Unit Test Creation and working with continuous Integration environments (Jenkins)
  • Extensive experience with Web Services
  • Experience with, knowledge of and discipline in standard System Development Lifecycle practices including translation of business requirements into a System Design document, Source Code Version Control (Subversion, Git, etc.), and maintenance.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum, Lean or XP)
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development
  • Experience conducting and participating in Code Review sessions
  • Excellent problem solving skills and strong verbal/written communication skills

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation, hardware deguggers, software development environments and degugging tools, static code analysis, network protocols and hardware interfaces..

Bench top testing and troubleshooting with typical lab equipment.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements. 

Language and Communication Skills:

Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above.  Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management.  Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
