Main Objective:

Direct the Software Engineering group including strategic planning, product delivery, site reliability, creating a high performing team via effective and efficient resource allocation, and ensuring the continued growth and success of Arthrex’s software capabilities and products. This leader will lead a team of software engineering managers and an organization with multiple software teams and partner closely with business counterparts to revolutionize the Software delivery and support experiences. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with senior executives to define and create the future of Arthrex's software business and the broader marketplace. 
  • Drive critical transformational projects as a key thought partner to Arthrex executive leadership.
  • Develop and deliver a compelling vision that inspires and motivates team members and business counterparts to achieve excellent results.
  • Create a high performing team that manages software and software products from cradle to grave.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the Software Engineering group including resource allocation, hiring, performance management, feedback on projects and technology, and establishing realistic goals with the engineers.
  • Build a world class leadership team that is founded on agile beliefs and results in high performing, engaged teams.
  • Harmonize the mix of talent within software development teams and adapts team skills to meet business objectives.
  • Attract and retain strong performers and create strategies for managing poor performance.
  • Collaborate with peers to share technology and process best practices.
  • Build, manage and communicate plans to deliver high quality software products.
  • Drive negotiations with multiple business stakeholders creating a reputation for excellent customer service.
  • Develop and evaluate new product features and user interfaces working with marketing, human resource and customers
  • Contribute new ideas to the business roadmap based on experience and continued awareness of relevant industry trends.
  • Determine and implement best practices for software development and software test management ensuring maximum quality and velocity.
  • Instantiate the optimal software development process, ensure it is followed, and manage the results to deliver maximum business value.
  • Continually maintains awareness of industry trends in technology, tools and practices and pragmatically applies them to improve the productivity and quality of software development teams.
  • Leveraging experts in the organization, establishes and maintains an architectural roadmap that considers cost, team productivity, maintainability and business impact.
  • Lead build vs. buy decisions and selects vendors as partners in meeting business and technology goals.
  • Build strong partnerships with peers in Integration, Operations and Service to ensure software deliverables meet availability and performance goals.
  • Maintain effective processes and systems to ensure high service availability and that any issues that arise are quickly detected and resolved.
  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; preferably in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • MS preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years leading technical teams required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience leading a team of technical engineering managers required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of software engineering experience required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in agile, lean, and other project management practices required.
  • A track record or successfully coaching, mentoring and leadership required.
  • Experience leading multiple cross-functional agile delivery teams required.
  • History of successfully leading large cross functional projects.
  • Previous experience in enterprise class organizations is strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Excellent organizational, leadership/decision making, and communication skills.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Expertise with state of the art tools necessary for commercial software development, quality assurance, deployment and support.
