Main Objective:

The developer position will be a pivotal role in the BI Team to help take it to the next level in a rapid paced, low maturity, BI environment. The goal is for a data warehouse expert to provide guidance to plan, develop, maintain and support data warehouses to meet the reporting and analytical requirements of the organization. The role will collaborate with BI developers on the global team to tackle the primary objective of implementing a new Global Data Warehouse. Moving forward, the role will be actively involved in the strategic direction and maintenance of the Data Warehouse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical leadership for design, architecture, integration and support of the data warehouse with a focus on high availability, performance, scalability and maintainability
  • Develops, maintains and optimizes all efforts related to Data Warehouse (SSIS, Stored Procedures, Views etc.)
  • Plans, implements and supports data acquisition, staging, loading and transformation into the data warehouse using MS SQL platform (SSIS)
  • Leads the development and maintenance of the ETL using MS SSIS
  • Translates business needs into technical requirements for data warehouse such as views, transformations and other processes to prepare data for consumption
  • Creates data warehouse components using best practices methodologies, such as Kimball
  • Solves complexities of new design and development as well as incremental updating of existing models
  • Works with Front-end Analytics team members in building data warehouse solutions (OLAP, Relational etc.) that allows them to build reports, dashboards and other analytical solutions to meet business requirements
  • Builds and maintains thorough documentation of the data and how it is moved through layers
  • Develops data definitions and tracks data lineage as part of data governance best practices
  • Develops automated data audit and validation processes.
  • Manages data administration tasks such as scheduling jobs and troubleshooting job errors.
  • Proactively communicate innovative ideas, solutions, and capabilities over and above the specific task request
  • Deploys code changes to different environments in a safe and reliable manner.
  • Performs extensive testing and defect analysis of analytical solutions and new rollouts.
  • Monitors applications for abnormalities, performance issues and continuously looks for areas to improve application availability and speed. Takes corrective action for errors and omissions.
  • Is available outside normal business hours, including weekends, for critical issues and coverage, as necessary. (shared responsibilities with team)
  • Develops system integration points between TM1, Cognos, Power BI, SQL, SAP, and other data sources.
  • Manages security controls, permissions and privileges following departmental protocols
  • Addresses user questions concerning data integrity, monitoring performance and communicating functional and technical issues
  • Ensures that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly; capacity planning
  • Develops and manages back-up and recovery plans
  • Demonstrates high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude and teamwork with customers, peers and management
  • Guides and trains team members on new technologies and architectural trends in the BI area

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical area of study; preferably in Computer Science, MIS or Analytics required. Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in implementing and maintaining Database and Data Warehouse solutions end-to-end using MS SQL platforms required.
  • Add’l Microsoft Stack, SAP, Cognos, TM1 and/or Power BI experience and/or certifications are a plus.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Demonstrated expertise using Microsoft SQL Server Stack, particularly MS SQL Server 2008, 2012, 2016 +, SSIS (SSRS and SSAS a plus)
  • Strong Data warehousing proficiency with star schema and dimensional modeling (but not limited to)
  • Demonstrated ability to implement dimensional data models, star schemas, across multiple data marts/subject areas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of formal data flow analysis methodologies and ability to design data warehouse data models using the Kimball Data Modeling methodology, or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to design data structures to maximize efficiency and flexibility, including ability to develop and maintain Extract, Transform, and Load ( ETL ) code to load a data warehouse repository, including code to handle incremental data loads and slowly change dimensions.
  • Experience with T-SQL to create, troubleshoot large complex stored procedures/triggers
  • Experience with OLAP reporting tools and cube technologies
  • Experience with extracting data out of SAP is a plus.

  • Strong ability to manage time and prioritize workload.
  • Strong analytical & business acumen preferred, specifically in Sales, Finance and Accounting, Inventory
  • Focuses on quality of work, over quantity.
  • Knowledge and experience in Agile development methodology a plus.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in analytical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
