Main Objective:

The Compliance Operations Lead is responsible for leading all aspects of the ethics, compliance and privacy investigations program as well as for managing compliance program processes and projects. Specifically, this position is accountable for providing ongoing education and mentoring to compliance investigative staff across the businesses, leading investigations and ensuring coordination of investigative activities, developing and implementing compliance policies, developing and delivering compliance training, and implementing and advising on compliance controls across the business. The Compliance Operations Lead reports to the Sr. Compliance Officer, North America and collaborates across all functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the compliance investigations program and activities to ensure effective, appropriate
    and timely investigations of reports of potential non-compliance across the business units.
  • Collaborates with all relevant staff as appropriate to align investigation standards, techniques, case management procedures, and reporting and ensures consistency with enterprise policies and standards.
  • Leads complex investigations in accordance with investigations procedures.
  • Collaborates with all relevant staff as appropriate to develop and align training on investigation standards, technique, and case management.
  • Communicates with business stakeholders to gather input on policy and procedure development.
  • Drafts, implements and maintains compliance policies, procedures and other guidance documents.
  • Supports the business in system implementation, best practice sharing and in the development of tools to support responsible business practices.
  • Provides guidance to business stakeholders regarding policy and procedure interpretation.
  • Supports compliance training development including content creation, audience identification and completion tracking.
  • Assists in the development of Compliance department communications.
  • Drafts investigative reports, interview memos, investigation work plans, project plans, presentations related to compliance program updates, enforcement trends, etc.
  • Supports risk assessment, auditing, monitoring and other Compliance department activities.
  • Leads other Compliance department projects, as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required; J.D., other advanced degree or professional license/certification (i.e. MBA, CCEP, CPA, CIA, etc.) preferred.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in Legal, Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit, Finance within the healthcare/life sciences/biotech industry required.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Demonstrated breadth and depth of knowledge of investigation best practices and related legal/regulatory and issues.
  • Ability to understand and develop business process and controls.
  • Comfortable working in situations with no clear answer.
  • Project management experience.
  • Intermediate (or better) level of proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of investigatory methodologies and tools, including ability to identify and manage investigation resources.
  • Adept at understanding complex concepts and situations presented by the business environment.
  • Ability to assess complex problems and recommend the appropriate compliance solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to proactively manage implementation of broad-based as well as specific initiatives.
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic and high-growth environment.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, analytical, organizational, problem solving and presentational skills.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Intermediate (or better) level of proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
