***This co-op position will run from July 2018-December 2018 and working in Naples, FL.

Main Objective:

To perform required product testing and produce appropriate reports on findings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Will perform static and dynamic mechanical testing and evaluation involving new and current orthopedic products to ensure reliability and correct functionality.
  2. Will assist in preparation of written reports and maintaining and creating various engineering test environments.
  3. Some work will be performed on cadaveric subjects.
  4. Will assist in designing custom test fixtures

Education and Experience:

Enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree with major in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.  Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Prior work in a laboratory setting would be highly advantageous. Mechanical testing experience involving tensile, compression, and shear desired.  Experience with polymer mechanical and chemical testing a plus.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Should have basic understanding of metal and polymer properties and mechanical and chemical test equipment. Must be able or willing to use mechanical test lab equipment in a proficient manner to acquire data/test results. Good documentation skills and the ability to write accurate test procedures/summaries/reports upon completion of requested tests required. Experience with 3D CAD software is preferred. Knowledge of basic anatomy and ASTM standards for medical devices a plus.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Instruments used will include:

  • Materials Testing Systems
  • Custom made testing apparatuses
  • Data acquisition systems
  • Computer skills, including 3D CAD, MS Excel, SigmaStat, and EndNotes, among others
