***Please note this is co-op opportunity, starting in January 2019 and running through June 2019.

Main Objective:

To perform required product testing and produce appropriate reports on findings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Will assist on blood and bone marrow projects with an emphasis on hematological testing via CBC analysis and ELISA.
  2. Assists in technical aspects of early stage research projects including in vitro work to support new product research and helps maintain existing products.
  3. Will assist on in vitro degradation studies of biodegradable products with an emphasis on changes in mechanical properties, polymeric degradation and thermal properties over time.
  4. Preparation of written reports and maintaining various engineering test environments.
  5. Some work will be performed on cadaveric subjects and tissues.

Education and Experience:

Enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree with major in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline.  Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Prior work in a laboratory setting would be highly advantageous. Experience with biological or chemical testing equipment and mammalian cell culture is desired.  Mechanical testing experience involving tensile, compression, and shear is a plus. 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

Should have basic understanding of biological, mechanical, and chemical test equipment. Must be able or willing to use all equipment in a proficient manner to acquire data/test results. Good documentation skills and the ability to write accurate test procedures/summaries/reports upon completion of requested tests required. Knowledge of basic anatomy and ASTM standards for medical devices a plus.
