3D CAD Surgical Planner - Virtual Implant Positioning

Main Objective: Use of in-house CAD software to generate deadline based, pre-operative surgical plans for the Arthrex VIP (Virtual Implant Positioning) shoulder arthroplasty system; along with maintaining and operating a 3D printer to print, process, and ship 3D printed anatomical bone models.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Use COS software to produce preoperative plans for ordering surgeons. 
  2. Responsible for receiving incoming CT Scans, documenting patient information, and processing CT scan data in accordance with COS procedures to create a “preoperative plan” for physician approval.
  3. Communicate with account managers regarding COS web portal, landmark, implant and Instrument placement.
  4. Work in a team environment to efficiently process customer orders.
  5. Work with 3D CAD software for quality control and product creation purposes.
  6. Work with 3D printing technologies to create, and ship, 3D models upon physician request.
  7. Perform Quality Control procedures to ensure conformance.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree or certificates in Engineering Technologies, Computer Science or similar preferred.
  • Experience working with CT Scans and medical applications preferred.
  • Experience with bench top testing and troubleshooting with typical lab equipment preferred.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Knowledge of 3D CAD applications required.  Solidworks/SpaceClaim preferred.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation, debugging, network protocols and hardware interfaces preferred.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office software.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements. 

Language and Communication Skills:

Ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above.  Ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management.  Ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
